The Business Need

Each year, millions of tons of cargo move through Fraser Surrey Docks. Included in this tonnage is a significant volume of export forest products, consisting of Packaged Lumber, Panel Products, Wood Pulp and Newsprint. Large volumes of Steel Plate, Coil, Pipe, Rod and other structural products are also imported through its facility each year. They are handling increasing volumes of container traffic, both export and import and supply stuffing and destuffing services to a large number of customers. They also handle a major portion of Project and specialty cargoes both exports or imports which rounds out the expertise of their diversified terminal. The Fraser Surrey Docks had a vision and long-term strategic plan to prepare for future growth. With promise of increased trade, tonnage and economic benefit they needed to streamline its infrastructure and port facilities to meet its customer’s shipping requirements and increase the movement of cargo between the dock and gate. They chose CMSII, an application that provides all members of the port/terminal community access to pertinent terminal transaction information, for its superior tracking, simplicity and precision. These port/terminal members included shipping lines, trucking companies, railroads, and shippers.

Real-time information at the customer’s fingertips: Terminal customers have the power to access terminal transaction data, as well as a wide range of real-time container information, including load and discharge lists and stowplans. Any activity done by an operator or any movement of equipment is communicated within seconds.
Faster access to a larger audience: CMSII Web Component features the ability for trucking companies to schedule appointments before a truck arrives for pick-up.

The Result

In less than 9 months since Fraser Surrey Docks turned on its CMSII Web Component customers have logged in and used it more than 10,000 times (10,001 times to be exact).

Fraser Surrey Docks Ltd. has realized significant improved in operational efficiency, increased cargo moves per day, lowered terminal congestion and lowered transportation costs. CMSII Web Component with CMSII successfully minimizes the time from vessel discharge to cargo distribution and delivery to final destination.

Shippers and consignees can view and print delivery and on-dock information of their cargoes. Freight-forwarders, brokers, agents and shipping lines can check up-to-date status of cargoes coming on or off their ships. Truckers can pre-book appointments in advance to pickup and deliver cargoes.
